As a young boy, I was fascinated by anything to do with space, and becoming an astronaut is a dream that many kids have at some time or another. Unlike when I was a child back in the 70s – we had to make do with tin foil to concoct something that vaguely resembled a spaceman costume – there are now numerous kids astronaut costumes available, and in a wide-range of styles.
For this blog post, I’ve picked out some of the better outfits available, ensuring your kids will be over the moon with their space suit!
Best Value Astronaut Costume for Kids
My top choice is this 5 piece outfit by Melissa & Doug, which, in terms of quality and price, is unbeatable value. Priced at £21.88, the costumes fits ages 3 to 6, and is made from durable material, so is ideal not just for fancy dress, but also playing around in. Included is a jumpsuit, gloves and helmet. It’s also machine washable, which is ideal for washing off all that space dust!
Best Quality Child Astronaut Costume
If you want to splash out on the very best quality costume, then this Aeromax Jr. Astronaut Flight Suit with Embroidered Cap and NASA patches is for you! Okay, so it’s pretty expensive at £35.68 plus delivery, but to quote the old saying, “you get what you pay for!”.
A full range of sizes are available for 10 months to 10 years old. This is an authentic NASA style flight suit available in red, orange or white, and includes embroidered NASA patches, padded collar, top quality zippers, and shoulder and waist harness straps.
The tough construction will allow your little one(s) to wear this NASA themed space outfit again and again, making it ideal for astronaut role play and fancy dress for boys or girls.
Orange Space Jumpsuit for Kids
If your budget doesn’t quite stretch to the price of the costume above, then you may like this alternative orange flight suit which has a similar look, but costs just £16.45. It’s provided by Rubie’s on Amazon and is available in three sizes for ages 3-4, 5-7, and 8-10. This is still a decent quality outfit for the money, although the cap is a let down in that it’s an odd size and looks cheap. However, the suit itself is fine.
Best Astronaut Costume under £10
The one problem with a jumpsuit is that it can be difficult for a child to climb into, and it can be ill-fitting if the sizing isn’t quite right. This half costume is ideal for a quick and easy astronaut look on a budget, allowing for instant fun. The low price of £11.99 includes the jacket, hood, gloves and a U.S. flag.
This is a really decent space outfit for the money, and the customer feedback is extremely positive on Amazon.
